We have had the opportunity to learn that the character itself, is by nature a wholesome yet highly sensitive individual who has taken it upon herself to exude a certain sense of dominance, or perhaps even a superiority complex by any means necessary, as a defense mechanism. Affected by the events of her past, such as the unsuccessful maintenance of most of her interpersonal relationships and the absence of a merciful soul through most of her scholastic career could've most certainly played larger roles regarding the current state of her mental health and emotional stability, so we can clearly see that M.J, whose only true semblance of a peaceful life had been constructed meticulously behind closed doors, might show certain behavioral patterns pertaining to depression and on rare occasion, post-traumatic stress disorder as demonstrated in the scene above. I don't have much luck when it comes to getting close to people. Anyone can get emotionally drained or fed up with the world around them. In M.J's particular case, concealing her emotions behind a dark, secluded facade in her mind, so she must've gotten to a breaking point in which she perhaps formulated that, by having the upper hand in all of her academic endeavors, she would be an equal amongst her peers. As we have gotten a closer look into the dichotomy of her relationship with Peter and the positive effect that his very presence holds in her daily life, we, as the audience feel like we are witnessing one of the greatest cinematic love stories of the twenty-first century, because most of us have experienced something similar in our formative years. We can identify with these characters, because¿ we are all somehow the same in spirit, but not necessarily in the struggles themselves. And that's the beauty of these films, they encompass common themes and emphasize the importance of friendship and unity. The bullying that Peter has to deal with on a daily basis is cruel, undermining and degrading, especially in previous incarnations, so we'll get to that later. Most teenagers in modern society, have been exposed to their own personal hell, plagued by crippling cases of mental illness, childhood trauma and familiar dysfunctionality can all lead to a few potential things: self-mutilation, rape, and suicide which I can testify of from personal experience. In having witnessed the fall of a generation, I can say that the world needs us to think, to create, to build a better future for our posterity, and that is where their relationship comes in. The transparency of their authenticity just comes to demonstrate mutual respect and compatibility on both sides of the spectrum. Now, Peter lost both his parents at a very young age, as well as his uncle Ben quite recently, the closest thing he had to a paternal figure throughout his childhood and early adolescence. The absence of true companionship and constant parental guidance is reflected in most of his conversations with Aunt May, who has had a major role in shaping Peter into the man he is today. When you lose a parental figure in your life, a friend, a close relative or in May's case (a spouse) it can be quite difficult to move past such a pivotal yet difficult turning point in your life. May desperately tries to make ends meet in hopes that one day, Peter can achieve the level of success and personal self-fulfillment that she never had growing up. What Peter and M.J have is beyond special, in my opinion, because it has been carefully crafted. The relationship itself is nurturing because they both know what it's like to be constantly mistreated and stigmatized by a society that does not value meaningful sacrifices nor effort, just a series of achievements bluntly printed out on a dull, boring piece of paper. Self-discovery, finding your own identity (in modern western society) for instance, or wherever it is that you reside and the unification and gradual empowerment of the social structure in spite of race, gender, sexual orientation, and religious views. It is refreshing to finally see that we have progressed in time, which has implicated much more improvements in our era. Peter and M.J are an interracial couple, something which has offered us much more insightful commentary on the matter. It has unfortunately become a rarity to see and witness such a beautiful sight brought to life on the silver screen. Parker's of Italian ascent and M.J is African-American.
